Sometimes there comes a moment when you feel it is time for a new chapter. For us, that was when we decided to make our long-held dream come true: running our own bed and breakfast in France. In the beautiful green landscape of the Berry, we found exactly what we were looking for: peace, space and authentic French country life. We now take great pleasure in sharing this special place with our guests.

Before moving to France, we had already run two bed and breakfasts in Gasselte, in the Dutch province of Drenthe. There we learned how rewarding it is to welcome people, sit around the table with complete strangers and say goodbye to them as friends at the end of the evening.

Our search led us to the Berry, in the heart of France. We were not looking for just a house; we were looking for a place with a story. When we saw La Joyeuse on the village square in Préveranges, it did not take us long to decide. The house is named after the little river that rises in Préveranges, the Joyeuse, while joyeuse means “joyful” in French. The name came with the house, and it suits it perfectly.

Year by year, we have shaped the garden. Roses, hydrangeas and perennials bloom in the borders. Further on are the kitchen garden and tomato greenhouse, and the swimming pool lies among several inviting places to sit. In summer, you can smell the roses before you see them, and in the morning you mainly hear birds rather than traffic. La Joyeuse is an adults-only bed and breakfast. We hope our guests feel what we felt when we first arrived: that, for a while, there is nothing they have to do.

Together, we do everything we can to make La Joyeuse a place where you can truly slow down. A place to enjoy peace, nature, good food, a fine glass of wine and, above all, the relaxed atmosphere.
